Selin Murat has stepped into the role of executive director at the IDFA Bertha Fund, following her earlier position as markets manager at IDFA. She succeeds Isabel Arrate Fernandez, a founder of the fund who led as executive director for 23 years. In her new capacity, Murat will guide the fund’s mission to support independent documentaries that defy easy consumption and engage audiences with compelling, hard-hitting stories from around the world, including Ukraine and Palestine. The IDFA Bertha Fund, a collaboration between the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and the Bertha Foundation, remains dedicated to nurturing bold, innovative nonfiction cinema and creators from underrepresented regions. Murat aims to expand access to funding for projects that push creative boundaries while delivering social impact and artistic integrity. This leadership transition marks a new chapter for the fund as it continues to elevate essential voices in contemporary documentary cinema and broaden the distribution and reach of urgent documentary work across festivals, cinemas, and streaming platforms.
