Mohanad Yaqubi on Jocelyne Saab: Revolutionaries Never Die Tops Cairo Film Connection
Palestinian filmmaker Mohanad Yaqubi topped this year’s Cairo Film Connection awards with Revolutionaries Never Die, the archival documentary produced by his own Idioms Film. As the industry program within the Cairo Film Festival, the Cairo Film Connection awarded Yaqubi the top prize and also recognized him with the best project in post-production prize for the same film. This marks Yaqubi’s third archive-based documentary, continuing his distinctive approach of weaving historical footage into contemporary Arab storytelling. In a conversation with Variety, Yaqubi spoke about his collaboration with Lebanese filmmaker Jocelyne Saab, describing Saab’s influence on the project: 'It's as if she's making the film and I'm the instrument making this happen.' Revolutionaries Never Die, produced by Idioms Film, underscores Yaqubi’s commitment to archival cinema and signals the growing prestige of archive-driven documentaries in the Middle East, with implications for post-production, distribution, and international audiences.
