Sony Pictures International Productions and Qatar Film Committee Announce Multi-Year Co-Financing Pact for Arabic Film Slate
Sony Pictures International Productions has signed a multi-year agreement with Qatar’s nascent Film Committee to co-finance a slate of Arabic-language feature films from the Middle East and North Africa. The pact marks another high-profile collaboration between a Hollywood studio and a Gulf film authority and is among several deals unveiled during the inaugural Doha Film Festival’s Industry Days, led by Hassan Al Thawadi, the Qatari official who chairs the Film Committee. The initiative aims to bolster regional cinema by providing production funding across an Arabic-language slate and includes a rebate incentive unveiled to attract further investment in Arab cinema.
This co-financing agreement underscores Qatar’s push to develop a robust MENA film market and to bring Arabic-language titles to international audiences. By combining Hollywood production expertise with local governance and incentives, the partnership seeks to expand opportunities for Arab storytellers and accelerate the growth of the Arabic film slate in regional and global markets.
