New Zealand Expands Film Incentives to Revive India Co-Production Ahead of WAVES Film Bazaar
New Zealand is intensifying its push into the Indian film market with the New Zealand Film Commission unveiling enhanced incentive packages designed to attract more Indian productions. At the same time, the agency is pursuing a revival of a largely dormant co-production treaty that has been used just once in the past 15 years, signaling a renewed commitment to Indo‑New Zealand collaboration in cinema.
NZFC chief executive Annie Murray told Variety ahead of WAVES Film Bazaar in Goa that the changes are substantial. The plan includes revisions to the co-production framework and the accompanying incentives to make cross‑border partnerships more appealing for Indian filmmakers and investors.
By broadening access to incentives and reviving the co-production treaty, New Zealand aims to foster deeper creative ties with India and unlock new co-financing opportunities for joint productions. The industry will watch closely as the Pacific nation positions itself as a strategic partner for Indian cinema at WAVES and beyond.
