Latvia's Animated Oscar Contender Dog of God Expands to Germany and Greece
Latvia's animated feature Dog of God is gaining momentum as the country’s second consecutive Oscar contender following the breakout success of Flow. After its Tribeca premiere, the film has continued its strong festival run, playing at more than 30 events worldwide including Sitges and Tallinn’s Black Nights festival, underscoring its appeal to international audiences and critics alike. On the distribution front, major deals have already been secured: Cartuna has acquired North American rights, and ESC Films is handling French-speaking territories, giving Dog of God a robust global footprint.
Berlin-based Media Move remains at the helm of international sales, driving the film’s continued expansion across Europe and beyond. While additional deals are anticipated, Germany and Greece are among the markets on the horizon as the project gains more traction in European territories.
The film is also positioned with a distinctive subtitle: The Naughty Stuff Was Inspired by Baltic Folk Songs, signaling a Baltic-flavored sensibility that blends humor with folklore and inventive animation. This unique angle helps Dog of God stand out in a crowded field of animated features vying for Oscars and other international awards.
As Latvia’s Oscar campaign progresses, Dog of God is poised to reach wider audiences in new markets, secure further awards recognition, and reinforce Latvia’s presence on the global animation map. With continued festival attention, strategic sales, and a bold creative voice rooted in Baltic folk-inspired storytelling, the film represents a compelling entry for both audiences and industry professionals seeking fresh, boundary-pushing animated cinema.
