Revitalizing Urban Landscapes: The JIC Jing'An Center

The JIC Jing'An Center, designed by Nikken Sekkei, is a beacon of innovation in urban planning, seamlessly integrating mixed-use functions, including offices, retail, and residential spaces, within a 180-meter-tall super-high-rise tower.

Located in the vibrant Jing'An District, the Center is situated adjacent to the Nanjing West Road commercial area, where traditional streetscapes coexist with large-scale business hubs. The project's design focuses on preserving historical context while incorporating modern functions, effectively bridging the gap between preservation and development.

Shanghai's rich cultural heritage is reflected in its traditional communal housing, known as 'Lilong', where alleyways between buildings served as communal living spaces. The JIC Jing'An Center adopts the concept of a 'three-dimensional Lilong', extending the richness and vibrancy of these traditional communities in a vertical fashion.

The design centers around a three-dimensional circulation route, linking preserved low-rise buildings to sky gardens and lower and middle tower section lounges. This unique approach draws the city's bustle to the upper floors, creating a dynamic and interactive urban environment.
