Locarno Film Festival Introduces New Competitive Section for Young Audiences

The Locarno Film Festival has unveiled a new competitive section dedicated to films for young audiences, featuring a diverse range of world and international premieres. The Locarno Kids Award la Mobiliare will be presented to the winning film, as chosen by a youth jury comprising members aged 11 to 15. These include the Swiss nature documentary Derborence the Age of Animals, animated works such as the French film Children of Liberty and the Colombian MU-KI-RA, and Mexican adventure movies like The Newcomers.

The coming-of-age stories The Summer That Ended Twice from Italy and the German Paradeisa are also part of the selection, along with the Danish social documentary If Luck Will Come, which follows a circus for disadvantaged children in Afghanistan. Two titles will be presented out of competition: the Italian-Swiss production Angel Seekers and the French feature animation Viva Carmen, which reimagines the opera through the eyes of street kids.
